Culturally Responsive and Equitable Evaluation (CREE) Coaching

The dominant (white supremacy) culture shows up everywhere, and evaluation is no exception. In partnership with Amani Austin, Founder of Austin Advocates With, we deliver CREE capacity-building and coaching to explore how white supremacy culture shows up in organizational culture and evaluation practice, learn equity considerations for each phase of the evaluation cycle, develop CREE principles, and practice CREE in context.

From 2023-2024, we supported Ecotrust to develop and adopt evaluation principles, practices, and tools that are equity-centered and community-focused. We then coached the Ecotrust team as they evaluated a cohort-based program for aspiring, emerging, and experienced BIPOC food system leaders. This brief describes the engagement and this downloadable toolkit provides six adaptable tools:

1.     Equity considerations for your project

2.     Thumbnail evaluation plan

3.     Participation questions for design and data collection

4.     Data collection process template

5.     Activity budget template

6.     Guidance on meaning-making and reporting
