Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO)
APANO unites Asians and Pacific Islanders to build power, develop leaders, and advance equity through organizing, advocacy, community development, and cultural work. Since 2015, Insight for Action has collaborated with APANO on several projects including data equity.
Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities are growing in Oregon, yet investments are not keeping pace with increased need. In collaboration with Willamette Partnership, we served as a learning partner with APANO to wield US Census data effectively and show the importance of investing in community-based organizations and leaders. Together, we developed tools, resources, and workshops to build local capacity to access and learn from census data that resulted in a story map. This allowed communities to tell their own stories in ways that can inform policy and investments most impactful to them.
